Beginner’s Photography Class

I remember holding a DSLR in my hands for the first time and having NO idea how to use it. I took hundreds, maybe thousands of photos, just trying to practice and learn. However, practicing didn’t do me any good when I was shooting everything with an automatic exposure… as if all you had to know how to do was turn a dial and select a “scene” on your camera.
.
I decided to teach myself, and after years of studying my manual, I attended a couple of workshops, where I finally gained the confidence to take photos I was proud to display.
.
Maybe this is where you are… maybe you are practicing and not seeing improvement. Maybe you’ve been reading your camera manual or online forums, desperately hoping to find answers and see a change.
.
.
.
I am putting together a workshop in hopes of teaching you how to use your camera and create beautiful images. It will be a 4-5 hour class, including some hands-on shooting with real people and the opportunity to ask any questions you come up with! (something that you can’t do when studying the manual!) We’ll cover the ins and outs of how your camera works, as well as how to nail lighting and exposure, focusing and how to avoid blurry images, etc.
.
I have professionally shot weddings for over six years, but now that I’m a momma, I’m taking a break from that world. Having my sweet girl has made me realize how incredibly important it is to be able to snap quality, beautiful photos day-to-day. I am so thankful that I am able to do this and to do it well – the skills I have from my photography business are a gift, and to be able to have beautiful snapshots of my girl that I am proud to display in my home is an even greater gift. That is my motivation for this class – to share this gift with you.
.
The workshop size will be limited, so registration will close once it is full.
If you are wanting to learn how to expose your photos in-camera (and how to avoid “needing” Photoshop to fix everything), learn how to avoid blurry, out-of-focus images, avoid a sterile, intimidating classroom setting and come hang out in a comfy, cozy environment, and get hands-on learning as we practice on an amazing model (and maybe even a super cute baby), then sign up here!

  • wow! a huge thanks to @todayswomannow for sharing this story!! 🎉❤️ (local friends, it’s in their most recent issue 👏🏻)
.
we made an unpopular decision a few months ago by getting rid of almost all of our social media and keeping Winnie as far away from it as we can. and it’s been so rewarding. 🙌🏻 Winnie still gets shown off from time to time, but keeping our real lives with her off of this app (and Facebook, Twitter, etc) is one of the best decisions we’ve made as parents.
.
“When it comes to our kids, we are in the midst of a ‘large uncontrolled experiment’.” Technology (ie, smartphones and social media) is the only thing that we throw blindly at our kids without knowing how it will impact their futures. I’m not saying our choice is the right choice for everyone, but I am saying to do your research.
  • I am SO READY for fall weather. 🍁 Summer is great, I don't mind it, whatever. But I've been talking about fall more and more recently, and OHMYGOSH CAN IT GET HERE ALREADY. 😫
.
Fall mini sessions will take place on 10/6 and 10/27. Both will be here in Southern Indiana. One weekend might have the option for Christmas themed props, I haven't decided on that part yet (if this is something you would want, comment and let me know which weekend would be better for you). 🎄 If these two dates don't work, don't fret... I almost always open up a third weekend for them once I get the first two booked. 🙌🏻

  • I have a lot of bad days. I don’t always share them here - maybe I should. or maybe it’s good that I don’t because who wants to hear me whine, am I right? 🤨 it’s just that some days (Sundays) are especially difficult when Winnie doesn’t see Shane even once all day. and you know she asks about him aaaall day. 😩 but thanks to my sweet friends who checked in on me after my post yesterday. you guys are the best and really I’m fine. 🖤 now, if Monday could just get on with it because, ugh, mooonnndddaaayyy. 😒😖 #ohmywinnie

  • no clever caption or insightful thoughts about this photo. 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s just a photo that makes me happy, and I need a little of that right now because sometimes Sundays are hard. 😞
